Authorities reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.

A senior official commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
